Tutorial Web Tool

For my last project, I had to make a tutorial using Tildee. I chose to use Tildee instead of creating a video tutorial because I think it is easier for the person using the tutorial to have the steps written out so they can work at their own pace and not have to stop and start a video. I chose to make the tutorial about how to use Glogster for Eastland students who may not know how to use all of the features. I think it will be very beneficial for the incoming seventh and eighth graders.

To begin, I made an account on Tildee and then I clicked the “Create a New Tutorial” button. Then I was able to start adding all of the steps to make a glog.  Because many of the things I needed to include in my tutorial, I labeled each step things like “How to log into Glogster EDU,” and “How to insert and edit an image.” Then I listed all the steps to complete that task. I thought that it would also help the people who use my tutorial find the information they need quickly and without needing to sort through hundreds of steps.

I created a glog especially for this project. As I added things like text boxes, clip art, images, YouTube videos, and audio I recorded the steps I took right onto Tildee. I also took screen shots of my glog so I could upload them to the tutorial. I then opened those images in Paint so I could add lines, labels, and stars to the image to make it easier to understand which buttons I was using. After the images were edited, I uploaded them right to the step that they corresponded with.  I created the steps for the following topics: signing in to the Edu version, creating a glog, choosing a title, inserting graphics, images, sounds, and a wall; inserting a You Tube video, hyperlinking, adding a document as an attachment and sharing the glog correctly.

The tool works very well but it has one problem, a confusingly labeled “Save” button. The save button is labeled “Add my Tutorial.”  When you click on this button, Tildee will post your tutorial for the entire world to see. My tutorial was very long so it took me several days to complete. I didn’t know if I would be able to edit my tutorial after it was published, so I never published or saved it. Unfortunately, that was a very big mistake. After I finished the project, I exited out of the program instead of minimizing it and I lost the entire thing. Mr. Haan wasn’t able to retrieve it, and now my poor project is lost in cyber space. Mrs. Paulsen was nice enough to not require me to redo it. Needless to say, I don’t have a final project, but here is a really cool tutorial that is very similar to the one that I made that Tildee user laustin02 created a few months ago. http://www.tildee.com/8H9sNe

My first instinct would be to say that I never want to use Tildee again, not after this less than perfect experience I had. But Tildee is a really good tool to make tutorials with. It’s easy to use and there are relatively no problems with the tool, so maybe in a few months I’ll tackle Tildee again. But this time the tutorial I make will be called, “How to use Tildee and not have a bad day.”
