Social Networking Project

In this unit, I used Visual.ly to create my infographic resume. I chose Visual.ly because I thought the graphics and

layouts of the infographs were well designed. The site could load all of my information from Linkedin to make it easy to fill

out the infograph resume, but in order for it to be easy to make the infograph, I needed to make a Linkedin account.

Linkedin is a social networking cite designed to connect people in professional occupations. You create a profile by

adding information about your qualifications. I started by adding my name, where I work or go to school and where I live.

Then I started working on my background. I listed my experiences, such as different schools I have attended, small jobs I

have had, and leadership positions I have in my church. I made sure to list the locations and time periods in which I

attended, worked, or volunteered at those places. I also listed the languages that I can speak. I speak English fluently, and

know a little Spanish so I made a note of my proficiencies in each of the languages.

Next, I listed some of my skills and expertise. I have had lots of experience working with and babysitting children so

I listed experience working with children. I participate in and help coordinate many church events, volunteer my time and

have been on several missions trips so I added leadership and project planning to my list of skills. I listed my favorite school

activated too such as concert band, jazz band, track, and cross country. Because of Eastland’s 1 to 1 initiative, I was able to

add other skills such as strong working knowledge of web 2.0 tools and Microsoft Office. Then I added Students against

Destructive Decisions (SADD) to my list of organizations that I participate in.

Then, I worked on putting all of my schools and courses. I used my transcript to add all the courses I have taken in

my high school career. After my profile was complete, I added the other students in my class and Mrs. Paulsen to my

connections. I also joined two groups that relate to my future career.

After I finished my Linkedin profile, I simply went to Visual.ly, created an account and uploaded all of my Linkedin

information. The site then organized the information into an interesting and easy to read infographic resume that displays

my name, education, experience, and skills. The only problem I had was getting the Visual.ly site to load at school, but I

believe that was an internet issue and not the site’s fault because as soon I got home, the page loaded with no problem. Other

than that, I had no problem using these web tools and getting the assignment done. I would definitely use this tool again

because it presents information in a way that makes it interesting to read and learn about.
